This is what many of us have been warning about for years. The normalisation of surveillance in the name of advertising "effectiveness" is what got us here. Surveillance should never be normalised, it always becomes authoritarian. Major reform of online advertising is necessary. And possible.

just gonna say it: hope Cloudflare buys Bluesky as well. Check my archives if you think this is my go-to for how to do business. But bsky is VC already; the (future-adversary) deal doesn’t change. Both bsky and cf are engaged in a ‘let’s remake the internet’ project, kept in check by protocols.
